Dota 2 Beginners Guide

Dota 2 Beginners Guide

Dota 2 has over 100 heroes and items, many strategies, and several types of buildings and units. It’s easy for a beginner to get lost in this variety. This Dota 2 guide will help beginners better understand the game and avoid typical mistakes.

Destroying buildings, killing creeps and enemy heroes gets you experience and gold. Experience is needed to level up and learn new abilities. Gold is for buying artifacts that give you advantages.

Open the game library and find Dota 2.
Right click on it and click “Properties”.
In the window that appears, find the “Language” tab, open it and select the desired one.
There are other guides on how to change the language, but this way is the easiest and most convenient.

Useful information for beginners
In Dota 2, players can communicate with each other via chat and voice messages. There are two chats: general and for allies (there is an inscription “Allies”). Voice communication is only available between members of the same team.

Game terms: how to understand what an ally says
Players use in-game slang for convenience. This quick guide on Dota 2 lingo can help you make sense of some unfamiliar words:

assist – help to kill the enemy;
byte – distraction of the enemy’s attention to himself;
buff – positive effect;
bash, stan – stun;
bot, bottom – bottom line;
gank – strategy when several heroes unite to kill the enemy;
GG (good game) – good game, sometimes means that the outcome of the game is clear;
Deny – finish off allied creeps, heroes or buildings to prevent enemies from getting experience and gold for them;
Invis – Invisibility;
Kuldown – the cooldown of a skill or item;
mid – middle line;
Push – a strategy that involves rapid demolition of towers;
salo – a ban on the use of abilities or hero Silencer;
SS – a message about the enemy leaving the field of vision;
top – top line;
TP – teleport;
Farming – killing creeps to earn money and experience;
FB – first kill;
feed, feeder – a player who often dies and speeds up the pumping of enemy heroes.

Important! The player must be careful not to confuse the chats, otherwise you can mistakenly give valuable information to enemies.

What hero to choose
The variety of characters in Dota 2 is impressive

The division by role
Hero guides for Dota 2 take into account, first and foremost, the role the character will play in the match:

Farm. Weak at the beginning of the game, but can play a crucial role at the end, when they collect the right items. Need to quickly gain experience and gold (farm creeps, help in killing). Played as Moon, Sniper, Anti-Mage in this role.
Rapid Damage (Nuker). Can do a lot of damage to one or more targets, most often with active skills. This applies to Zeus, Invoker, Lina.
Control (disable). Able to incapacitate, stun, or silence opponents. Choose Mars, Slardar and Disruptor for this role.
Escape. Have abilities that allow you to quickly and inconspicuously escape from the battlefield (such as invisibility, dash, or teleport). Io, Riki, and Puck are good at this task.
Initiation. The first to attack the enemy hero, as a rule, impose control effects and give the team an opportunity to finish off the target. These are, for example, Axe, Alchemist, and Void.
Support. Create conditions for allies to farm safely, buy items to help the team. Representatives of this group: Chen, Dazzle, Trent Protector.
Fortitude (Tank). Very hardy heroes who can take most of the battle’s damage. These include, for example, Bristleback, Pudge, Huskar.
Siege. Can quickly destroy enemy structures. You can choose Phantom Lancer, Leshrak, Furion for this purpose.
Forest. At the beginning of the game get experience and gold not on the line, but in the forest. Few can handle such a difficult pumping: Axe, Lifestealer, Lycan.
Basic Attributes
When first faced with the choice of heroes, newcomers will notice that they are divided into three groups. Below is a brief guide on Dota 2 on this division.

There are three characteristics in the game:

Strength. Determines the amount and speed of health regeneration.
Dexterity. Increases armor and attack speed.
Intelligence. This determines the amount of mana and its regeneration.
Every character has a base attribute, by which he is put into the category of strongmen, agility or intowiks. An increase in the main attribute, in addition to the overall effect, also gives an increase in damage from common attacks.

Division of heroes based on their main characteristic

Heroes with the main characteristic “strength” are more resilient and can absorb more damage than others. These include, for example: Mars, Sven, Pudge, Huskar, Axe, Alchemist.

Trappers have high damage and speed of conventional attacks, so they can successfully farm creeps and kill members of the enemy team. The potential of these characters is fully revealed at the end of the game, when the necessary artifacts are bought. This group includes: Sniper, Ursa, Luna, Phantom Lancer, Ricky, Nuks, and others.
