A video game is a special computer program or electronic device which implements a gameplay.
Synonyms for the concept of “video game” are the terms “electronic game”, “computer game”, “video game device”, “video game for PC”, and so on.
The essential elements of any video game are:
visual interface, through which the player (gamer, from English gamer) controls the gameplay,
game environment – a setting including a specific time, place of action, external attributes of the game.
Often these games are based on stories from movies, literary works, political events. You can observe the reverse process, when a full-length movie is made based on certain kinds of video games.
A game is something that has players, not viewers, readers, or participants. Players act within a set of rules with no consequences for the real world: so war can never be called a game; gambling for money can only be considered a game until it becomes your addiction and you lose all your money; love is a game until you fall down. For my children, chess is not a game because it is too boring for them to memorize any rules.
